Why should you use a VPN, and which one?

Because the security never stops, I think it's good to talk about VPNs, Virtual Private Network, true secure tunnels for your browsing.

Because IT security never stops, I think it's good to talk about VPN networks, virtual private networks, real secure tunnels for your browsing.

What is a VPN?

A VPN is a virtual private network, translated by Virtual Private Network. You may have also converted the term tunneling, it's really about creating a tunnel between you, your machine, and the Internet resource you want to use (usually a web page).

Basically, to use a VPN, you then securely connect to a VPN server that encrypts your information, connect for you to the Vpn-investigation server, and you returns the information. Everything is encrypted and goes through a third-party server, the VPN server. The relationship of trust is therefore very important.

Why do I need one?

The first reason for using a VPN is protecting your privacy on the Internet. I'm not trying to convince those who have nothing to hide that they are in denial, just to save time. The use of a virtual private network will not be entered in the statistics of your ISP, of all, that is all that it has already been.

The use of a VPN is very highly recommended if you connect to Internet networks that you do not know. I'm thinking of airports, hotels, cafes, free Wi-Fi and other hotspots: you do not know how security is managed on public networks, nor on private networks of your friends. The precautionary principle applies.

Finally, many people use VPNs to override geographical limitations. Since it's a third-party server that makes the connection for you, this server can be virtually anywhere. You can then avoid censorship of certain web pages, or geographical restrictions. Examples: Access The Pirate Bay while your ISP is blocking it, or access the Netflix US catalog while in UK or USA

The use of a VPN makes it absolutely invisible to anyone what you do on the Internet. Absolutely everything.

Which VPN to choose?

As I said in the introduction, the relationship of trust with your VPN is necessary. It would be perfectly silly to choose a VPN that is not perfectly secure while the purpose of the maneuver is precisely to gain security. So you can automatically forget about free VPNs, unless it's OpenVPN itself.

Personally, I chose VyprVPN because it is to my knowledge the only one who has 100% of its infrastructure [link], and who thus controls end-to-end the security of it. They do not record who does what on their network, making your navigation really private (no logs).
Their Chameleon technology is fabulous, because it is based on OpenVPN and improves it to make the Deep Packet Inspection - which is used to detect if you use a VPN or not - inoperative. There is also HideMyAss, very popular, but I find it extremely slow.

I offer 25% discount, or 4 EUR per month: the Premium account costs 48 EUR the first year through this link. You can take a month account, marketed 10,50 EUR if you want to test.

You can use their software on all desktop and mobile platforms, and they offer a tutorial to create the VPN profile on a Synology NAS, which perfectly meets many needs.

StrongVPN test and reviews 2020

StrongVPN experts  reviews : Originally from California, USA, StrongVPN was founded in 2005. Since its inception, it has become more famous and has become one of the most well-known providers today thanks to its continuous improvements and the enrichment of its features. Like most of US-based VPNs, StrongVPN has faced some privacy concerns from its users due to the severity of the US data retention laws, but its attitude to this issue is very clearly outlined in its privacy policy. The policy in question clearly states that StrongVPN does not store the browsing histories of its users. Otherwise, StrongVPN takes serious measures to protect the online privacy and security of its users. StrongVPN uses AES SHA encryption ranging from 256 bits to 2048 bits compatible with several protocols including OpenVPN, L2TP/IPSec, SSTP and IKEv2. Other features include a fuse, a “Best Available Location” feature and many others. StrongVPN offers these features on so many platforms that it took us som…

Netflix won the streaming battle. This is not a hypothesis, but a statement. A few years ago, no one would have bet on video on demand. And today, giants like Amazon or Disney are running behind Netflix to catch up.

Until 2015, Netflix was available in only a few countries. These include the United States, Europe, and some Asian countries. But in 2016, Netflix announced its worldwide availability. The number of subscriptions has soared, but users have quickly disengaged.

Indeed, many users realized that Netflix's catalog was poor as soon as you left the United States. Today, the French catalog represents only 40% of that of the United States. Fortunately, a VPN could be used to bypass this geographical blockage.

We could use a VPN such as Cyberghost, Express VPN, Private Internet Access. The objective is to use an American IP address to connect to Netflix. The service thinks you are in the United States and offers you the complete catalog.
